Yes, we all know that the Grammy Awards suck ass and are irrelevant as hell. It's more of a popularity contest than anything else, and it's the music industry rewarding itself. And this year's nominees prove that. However, there are a few awards worth taking note of:
--Album Of The Year:
I'm very pleased that Dave Matthews Band got a nod for Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King. Could this be partly due to Leroi's passing? I really hope not, because Big Whiskey really is one of the best records of 2009. I actually think they stand a really good chance of winning this, despite them being the dark horse here (other nominees include Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift, all of whom have done quite well on the charts and on radio).
--Rock Album Of The Year:
DMB's Big Whiskey is up against a strong group of contenders:
AC/DC - Black Ice
U2 - No Line On The Horizon
Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown
Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood - Live At NYC
It'd be interesting to see who takes home this award. I won't be surprised if U2 wins this one, cause it's one of the only 3 nods they got....surprisingly. I always thought the Grammys liked to kiss their Irish asses in the past; well not this time.
As for the Boss, he was nominated in four categories (and will definitely win at least one) :
--Best Rock Song
Working On A Dream (also up against Pearl Jam's The Fixer)
--Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance
Working On A Dream
--Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media
The Wrestler
--Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals
Sea Of Heartbreak -- Rosanne Cash & Bruce Springsteen
The 52nd Grammy Awards take place in LA on 31 Jan 2010.
