X

That's X, the classic LA punk band. Didn't know much about them previously, only knew the singer John Doe did this fantastic duet with Kathleen Edwards on his song, The Golden State, few years back. I bought a cheap compilation of X's first five albums while in Perth earlier this year. I love their first four, Los Angeles, Wild Gift, Under The Big Black Sun and More Fun In The New World. They got a very unique sound unlike any other four-piece punk outfit; besides having both male and female lead singers (John Doe and Exene Cervenka are average vocalists, but the whole appeal is their eccentric & off-beat singing style, the 'act like I don't give a damn but I actually do' attitude), the band infuses lots of 50s-inspired rockabilly, they got folk and country sensibilities, and they got lots of psychedelic organ in the early songs....courtesy of The Doors' Ray Manzarek, who also produced them a while. They'll be opening for Pearl Jam on their upcoming European tour, so in a way it'll be my first 'real' punk gig....discounting Dinosaur Jr. and Green Day. Just checked their current ages on wiki...God they're old! But good to know they're still rocking. What are the chances of Eddie making a guest appearance onstage with them?
